Sulzer Eldim Improves Project Management with Serena Software

  • SBM Helps Manufacturer Streamline Management Workflows, Reduce Costs

St Albans, UK - Aug 24, 2011 - Serena Software, a leader in orchestrated application delivery, IT and business processes, today announced that Netherlands-based Sulzer Eldim, which is part of Sulzer Metco, a division of Sulzer Corporation, has chosen Serena Business Manager (SBM) to automate and improve workflows and ensure that project selection and approvals can be managed across the company.

Sulzer Eldim’s core business is the manufacturing of high quality metal parts for airplane and industrial gas turbine engines. The company required a software product that would allow the company to manage its approvals around internal projects, so that all processed orders fit with overall company objectives. Having this formal approach in place would save the company money by eliminating unnecessary spend and ensuring that resources are allocated to meet business objectives more efficiently.

Working with Avnet Client Solutions, Sulzer Eldim chose Serena Software’s process management solution SBM. SBM allows organisations to automate their workflows and integrate with other applications and systems, helping them to streamline processes and deliver necessary data to the individuals involved.

“SBM provides a great platform for us to improve our management processes around project approvals and decision-making. It also allows us to reduce the amount of time spent on each stage of the development process, either at the beginning of the project or after it is initially launched,” commented Truus Zorg, Manager, Information Systems at Sulzer Eldim. “The implementation of SBM was also extremely rapid - from development to full implementation in less than three weeks.”

“SBM delivered a workflow technology platform for Sulzer Eldim that not only meets its specific development and project management needs, but can also cover many other process based solutions, at a fraction of the cost of traditional project management tools,” commented Teddy MacCarthy, managing partner at Avnet Client Solutions. “We are looking forward to working with Sulzer on developing further innovative process based solutions, and over the coming year we plan to roll the project selection and approval solution out to a number of other Sulzer facilities across EMEA.”

“When you are working on large-scale projects, managing interaction across teams and back up to the business is a huge concern,” commented David Hurwitz, senior vice president of marketing at Serena Software. “SBM provides organisations with a fast, effective way to ensure that the right business processes are followed, as well as providing data for management and reporting. Having the right approach to management and approvals ensures that projects can be delivered faster across the organisation by orchestrating the right workflow processes.”

The time it takes to develop processes or solutions using SBM is much shorter that more traditional development tools. This saving in time also extends to any ongoing changes that are required to be made to the process solution. Instead of taking weeks to implement and test a change, changes to an SBM based solution can be made, tested and in a live environment often within a number of hours.
