Mr. Lawson is a Managing Partner, Co-Founder and the Chief Executive Officer of HGGC. He is also a member of the firm's Executive and Policy and Investment Committees and has extensive private equity investment and operational experience primarily in a broad range of technology-related industries.
Prior to the forming HGGC, Mr. Lawson was a co-founder and Managing Director of Sorenson Capital Partners, L.P. Prior to co-founding Sorenson Capital, Mr. Lawson served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Found, Inc., a Bain Capital portfolio company that provided e-commerce software and inventory management solutions to major retailers and manufacturers. Mr. Lawson began his investment career in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley.
Mr. Lawson received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Amherst College.
Mr. Brown is a Partner, the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Financial Officer of HGGC. He is also a member of HGGC's Executive Committee. Prior to the inception of HGGC, Mr. Brown was the CFO of Neways International, a Golden Gate Capital portfolio company. Prior to joining Neways International, he was Senior Vice President, Finance and CFO of Nutraceutical International Corporation, a publicly traded company. Prior to Nutraceutical, Mr. Brown was a Senior Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Mr. Brown received his B.S. with Honors, summa cum laude, in Accounting and a Master of Accountancy with High Distinction from Brigham Young University.
Mr. Krieger is the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of HGGC. He is also a member of HGGC's Executive Committee. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Krieger was International Legal Counsel for a worldwide not-for-profit organization, where he was responsible for legal affairs and government relations, residing first in Africa and later in Mexico. Prior to this position, Mr. Krieger worked with private equity firms and individual companies on mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions in a variety of industries.
Mr. Krieger received his B.A. in Communications from Brigham Young University and a J.D., cum laude, from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.
Mr. Smith is a Principal of HGGC. Prior to joining HGGC, Mr. Smith was a Manager, Case Team Leader, and Consultant at Bain & Company. Prior to working at Bain & Company, he served as an Investment Banking Analyst and Associate at Lincoln International, L.L.C., where he specialized in mergers and acquisitions and private capital raising.
Mr. Smith received his B.S. in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from Washington and Lee University and his M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Douglas D. Troxel is the founder of Serena Software and has served on Serena's Board of Directors since April 1980. From June 1980 to April 1997, Mr. Troxel served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Serena. Mr. Troxel holds a B.S. in mathematics from Iowa State University.
Mr. Young is a Managing Partner and Co-founder of HGGC. He is also a member of HGGC's Policy and Investment Committee and Executive Committees. Prior to his inception of HGGC, Mr. Young was a co-founder and Managing Director of Sorenson Capital and was a member in Northgate Capital, LLC, the general partner of Northgate Capital Partners, L.P., a fund of funds.
Mr. Young's professional football career spanned more than fifteen years in the NFL, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers, where he received numerous accolades, including Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXIX, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News' Player of the Year from 1992 - 1994, and the NFL's Most Valuable Player for 1992 and 1994. In 2005, Mr. Young was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the first left-handed quarterback to be so honored. Mr. Young is also the highest-rated quarterback in NFL history and has the distinction of being the only signal caller in league annals to win four consecutive NFL passing titles.
He founded and chairs the Forever Young Foundation which is actively involved in children's charities worldwide and is currently the broadcast host as well as the former International Spokesperson for the Children's Miracle Network which has raised over one billion dollars world-wide to benefit children's hospitals.
Mr. Young is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a J.D. from the College of Law as well as a B.S. in Finance and Political Science.
Greg Hughes was named Serena’s chief executive officer in January 2013. Prior to that, Mr. Hughes served on Serena’s board of directors while an operating partner at Silver Lake Partners, which he joined in March 2011. Prior to Silver Lake, Mr. Hughes served in a variety of senior management roles at Symantec Corporation including Group President, Enterprise Products. Mr. Hughes joined Symantec through its acquisition of VERITAS Software, where he was Executive Vice President, Global Services. He joined VERITAS after a 10-year career at McKinsey & Company, where he founded and led the software practice. He currently serves on the board of LogMeIn.
Mr. Hughes received an MBA from Stanford University and a BS and MS in electrical engineering and computer science from MIT.
Bob Pender is responsible for managing Serena’s worldwide finance organization. Mr. Pender was SVP, Finance and CFO of Serena Software from 1997 to 2011 before rejoining the Company in June 2013. He has more than 23 years of management experience in corporate finance and administration in the software industry.
Prior to joining Serena Software, Mr. Pender served as VP of finance at Mosaix, Inc., an enterprise customer management and call center company, which was sold to Lucent. Mosaix was the result of a 1996 merger involving ViewStar Corporation, where Mr. Pender was chief financial officer. Before ViewStar Corp., he served as the controller for Versant Object Technology and began his career with Arthur Andersen & Company.
